SHOUTING FOR JOY OR WEEPING?

Ezra 3:12. “But many of the priests and Levites and chiefs of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen
the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many
shouted aloud for joy.”

That must have been a scene. The reconstructed temple was nothing in comparison to the glorious temple that
Solomon had built. The ancient men wept, the younger rejoiced. Those on the outskirts could not discern
between the two. Why was the temple built? Was it for its beauty or for the praise and honor of the Almighty
God?

We have not a newly constructed temple, but we are heading back to church. Not with the numbers that we had
before, not with the hugs and kisses that we shared before, sad isn’t it? But why are we going?
Let us make the best of what we have for now, hoping that this too will pass. Let us go with rejoicing, knowing
that we are going to lift praises to the King of kings and Lord of lords.

God bless.
Michael Gray, Head Elder
